Journal for Specialists in Group Work
Instructions for Authors

This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Aims and Scopes: The Journal for Specialists in Group Work is directed toward group work practitioners, researchers, and educators with a focus on group work theory, interventions, training, current issues, and research.
Authors are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher before publication. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source.) All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Upon acceptance, contributors are required to supply the final version of the material in Manuscript Central along with completed forms. No other file formats will be accepted. Contributors will also be expected to submit four, four-option multiple-choice questions and answers representative of the main content of their manuscript for use in the Journal for Specialists in Group Work CEU exam. The CEU questions and answers should be submitted as a separate file from the manuscript file itself. Manuscripts, including tables, figures, and references, should be prepared in accordance with the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. All manuscripts must be typed using Times New Roman font and 12 font size, double-spaced (including references and extensive quotations), on 8.5 X 11 inch paper with a 1-inch margin all around. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces.
Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Tables and Figures. Tables should be kept to a minimum. Include only essential data and combine tables wherever possible. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files following the reference section of the article. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
References. Should be listed on separate pages following the text and should be typed double-spaced. References should follow APA style. Please note that the latest edition of the style manual requires hanging indents for the references. Check all references for completeness; adequate information should be given to allow the reader to retrieve the referenced material from the most available source. Direct quotations must have page numbers cited. References should be listed alphabetically. Be sure all references have been cited in the text.
Proofs. Electronic page proofs are sent to the designated author. Proofs should be checked and returned within 48 hours.
Offprints and Complimentary Copies. The corresponding author of each article will receive up to 6 complimentary issues. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a means of making your article more visible to anyone who might be looking for it. Please consult our guide here.
