Instructions for Authors
Submission of Manuscripts
Three copies of the manuscript in final form, including reproducible figures, should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief, Robert Trappl, Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Freyung 6/6, 1010 Vienna, Austria or by e-mail: sec@ofai.at in Latex or PostScript format. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts via e-mail or on a disk. Disks should be clearly labeled with the author's names, file name , and software program. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduced copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Order of Presentation
Page 1 of the manuscript should include a brief, clear, and descriptive article title (10 words or fewer), author name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) including zip code(s), an abbreviated title (maximum of 40 characters) to be used as a running head, and a complete mailing address for proofs. Subsequent material should be arranged as follows: abstract of 50-150 words, introduction, main body of paper, references, tables, figure captions, and figures.
Preparation of Manuscript
The manuscript must be typed, double-spaced (including references), on one side of the paper only and with margins of at least 1 inch. All pages should be numbered.
Equations
Mathematical equations should be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly indicated. Greek letters and other special symbols must be identified in the left margin the first time they appear. Carefully distinguish between one and "el," zero and upper- or lower-case "oh," lower-case t and Greek tau, and so on.
Indicate vectors with a wavy underscore. Only equations referred to in the text should be numbered serially at the right margin by Arabic numerals in parentheses. They should be cited in the text in the following manner: Eq. (10), Eqs. (10)-(16).
Computer Languages and Instructions
Titles of computer languages should be capitalized (for example, LISP, PROLOG). Syntax words should be in boldface (use a wavy underscore), comments in roman, and everything else in italic (use a straight underscore).
Footnotes
Any footnotes of acknowledgment or author identification will appear on the opening page of the paper. Text footnotes should be keyed with symbols (*, t, t, @) by page.
References
Cite references in the text by author and date. Alphabetize the reference list by author and double space it in a separate section at the end of the paper. Reference style should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed.
