Instructions for Authors
Submission of Manuscripts
The manuscript in its final form, including reproducible figures, should be sent by e-mail to sabine.payr@ofai.at in Latex, Word or RTF format, plus in PDF. The journal will only accept electronic submissions. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher which will be sent to them after submission. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as ‘‘derivative reproduction'' (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source).
Order of Presentation
Page 1 of the manuscript should include a brief, clear, and descriptive article title (10 words or fewer), author name(s) and institutional affiliation(s), an abbreviated title (maximum of 40 characters) to be used as a running head, and the complete mailing address of the corresponding author. Subsequent material should be arranged as follows: abstract of 50–150 words, introduction, main body of paper, references, tables, figure captions, and figures.
Preparation of Manuscript
The manuscript must be double-spaced (including references) as single column text, and with margins of at least 1inch. All pages should be numbered.
Equations
Only equations referred to in the text should be numbered serially at the right margin by Arabic numerals in parentheses. They should be cited in the text in the following manner: Eq. (10), Eqs. (10)–(16).
Footnotes
References
In-text citations have to follow the pattern (author, year), e.g. (Zhao et al., 2010), (Cowie et al., 2011). Sort the reference list alphabetically by author and double space it in a separate section at the end of the paper. Reference style should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. (Journal article, book, thesis, report, proceedings, and edited book), for example:
Journal article: Zhao, Q., Zhang, D., Zhang, L. and Luo, N. 2010. High resolution partial fingerprint alignment using pore–valley descriptors. Pattern Recognition 43, 1050–1061.
Book: Cowie, R., P. Petta and C. Pelachaud (eds.). 2011. Emotion-Oriented Systems. The Humaine Handbook. Berlin: Springer.
Book section (e.g., conference proceedings): Sloman, A. 2010. Requirements for Artificial Companions: It's harder than you think. In Wilks, Y. (ed.). Close Engagements with Artificial Companions: Key Social, Psychological, Ethical and Design Issues. Amsterdam: John Benjamins. 179–200.
Illustrations
Illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be supplied as high quality greyscale digital files and should follow these guidelines:
-
300 dpi or higher
-
Sized to fit on journal page
-
EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
Reprints
Each corresponding author of an article will receive one PDF file via e-mail. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
