Instructions for Authors

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS.

Authors should submit an e-mailed electronic copy of manuscripts for submission. Manuscripts should be double spaced, with a maximum length of 8,000 words including notes and references and include any original illustrations. Please send to Lu Dai, Assistant Editor, pp. Mick Dillon and Scott Wilson, Co-editors, Journal for Cultural Research, Institute for Cultural Research, County South, University of Lancaster, Lancaster, LA1 4YD, UK, and e-mailed to: l.dai@lancaster.ac.uk and m.dillon@lancaster.ac.uk

Manuscripts must conform to the Harvard reference style. The Harvard system uses the name of the author and the date of publication as a key to the full bibliographic details which are set out in a reference list at the end of the article. Notes should be kept to a minimum and will be reproduced as endnotes. Tables, figures, and plates should be submitted in clear copy on separate sheets attached to the article. Photographs should be high-contrast black and white glossy prints. All captions for figures and plates should be listed on a separate sheet. The desired position of illustrations should be indicated in the margin of the manuscript, along with an indication of the preferred size of reproduction (e.g. full page, half page).

Proofs. Authors are expected to correct and return proofs of accepted articles within 48 hours of receipt.

Reproduction of copyright material. As an author, you are required to secure permission to reproduce any proprietary text, illustration, table, or other material, including data, audio, video, film stills, and screenshots, and any supplementary material you propose to submit. This applies to direct reproduction as well as “derivative reproduction” (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). The reproduction of short extracts of text, excluding poetry and song lyrics, for the purposes of criticism may be possible without formal permission on the basis that the quotation is reproduced accurately and full attribution is given. For further information and FAQs, please see http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/preparation/permission.asp

Copies of permission letters should be sent with the manuscript upon submission to the editors. Copyright permission letter template

Copyright and authors' rights. It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/preparation/copyright.asp. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Exceptions are made for certain Governments' employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers.

Free article access. As corresponding author, you will receive free access to your article on Taylor & Francis Online. You will be given access to the My authored works section of Taylor & Francis Online, which shows you all your published articles. You can easily view, read, and download your published articles from there. In addition, if someone has cited your article, you will be able to see this information. We are committed to promoting and increasing the visibility of your article and have provided this guidance <http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/beyondpublication/promotearticle.asp>  on how you can help.

Reprints and journal copies. Article reprints can be ordered through Rightslink® when you receive your proofs. If you have any queries about reprints, please contact the Taylor & Francis Author Services team at reprints@tandf.co.uk. To order a copy of the issue containing your article, please contact our Customer Services team at adhoc@tandf.co.uk.
