Anthropology & Medicine
Instructions for Authors
Anthropology & Medicine welcomes original contributions from all parts of the world on the understanding that their contents have not previously been published nor submitted elsewhere for publication. All submissions should be made online at the Anthropology & Medicine Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Books for review should be sent to the Reviews Editor. Scholars wishing to guest edit a theme issue should write to the Editor, Sushrut Jadhav, Email: s.jadhav@ucl.co.uk for full guidelines.
Manuscripts should ideally be between 5000 and 6000 words (inclusive of abstract, references and notes). All maps, figures, diagrams and tables should be counted as equivalent to 250 words per unit. Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.
Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources. All submissions must explicitly state funding source and ethics consent within the acknowledgements section of the manuscript. Papers should be written in the third person and not in the first person and the cover letter submitted should include an explanation of why the manuscript is of interest to Anthropology & Medicine readers and what is novel about it.
The first page should include the title of the paper, first name, middle initial(s) and last name of the author(s), and for each author a short institutional address, and an abbreviated title (for running headlines within the article). At the bottom of the page give the full name and address (including telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address if possible) of the author to whom all correspondence (including proofs) should be sent. The second page should repeat the title and contain a structured abstract of not more than 250 words. The third page should repeat the title as a heading to the main body of the text. Long articles may need subheadings within some sections to clarify their content. Within the text section headings and subheadings should be typed on a separate line without numbering, indentation or bold or italic typeface. Foreign language words or phrases should be in italics with appropriate explanatory footnotes.
The journal is now able to offer a rapid turnaround time for manuscript submissions.
